Are the Dixie Chicks Still being punished?

For their Politics?
They swept the Grammy Awards, but apparently the Dixie Chicks are still not in favour with the Academy of Country Music.

Nominations were announced Monday for the annual ACM Awards and there was no mention of the trio despite their five Grammys for Taking the Long Way. The Chicks have won 10 ACMs in their career, including Entertainer of the Year in 2000, but have been shunned by the Nashville establishment since their President Bush-bashing comments in 2003.

While the Academy of Country Music isn't ready to make nice with the Chicks, the organization made sure the usual Nashville-pleasing subjects were accounted for, led by George Straight, Brooks & Dunn and Rascal Flatts.

While it could be argued that "Taking the Long Way" isn't really a country album (I love the record...it was one of my favorite CDs of last year...but it's arguably more of a pop/rock record with few country touches...of course that hasn't stopped them from pop music from folks like Shania Twain and Faith Hill...), but the truth is that the ACM probably is, as a group, still ticked off at the Chicks. Like Country radio here in the States, I guess the ACM has a long, vindictive memory but precious little tolerance for opinions that differ with their collective wisdom.

Even negative publcity is pubilcity, right? I still like their music and thanks to the extremists who require perfect political correct behavior every waking moment...well, I also get to hear about the Chicks all the time. Always top of mind. Isn't that what marketing is all about?
